Sporting Events
Competition and Festivals
All of the children at Birkdale Primary School are encouraged to take part in sporting events . We are part of North Sefton School Games (NSSG) and enter as many sporting events as we can throughout the school year. Our children were incredibly successful last year (2020-2021) winning lots of medals and certificates for their amazing achievements. Our highlights were winning the Year 6 gymnastics competition and being runners-up with our Year 4 duo. We were crowned MERSEYSIDE CHAMPIONS at the pentathlon event after winning a staggering 13 events across Y1 to Y6. Reception children entered a dance festival on the theme 'Friendship' dancing to the music 'A gift from a friend' from Disney's Tinkerbell and across the school had endless success with our personal challenges. We really had an overwhelming year of success!
This year we won a GOLD at our netball tournament, won silver in the year 3/4 tag rugby event, reached the final for North Sefton in athletics, got through to the quarter final in the football Duffy Cup Trophy and our girls came first in the swimming gala (another trophy to add to our collection).
Leadership in Physical Education and Physical Activity
Playground Activity Leaders
We have a group of 20 children from Years 3 to 6 who have been trained by our North Sefton School Games Organiser to become a Playground Activity Leaders (PAL). Their role is to lead in the provision of playground physical activity, supporting and encouraging children to join in and have fun while being physically activity at break time. Every year group has a bag of sports equipment to use from bats and balls, dodgeballs, badminton rackets through to croquet sets. We even have an outdoor table tennis table to use everyday.
Sports Leaders
Our sports leaders play an important role within our PE curriculum. They are involved in the planning and implementation of sports day through to supporting the PE leaders with the programme of extra curricular activities.
